The Story
For two incredible decades, the global phenomenon of color-coded, martial-arts superheroes piloting giant robotic Zords called New Zealand home. From Ninja Storm all the way through to Cosmic Fury, generations of Rangers saved the universe right here.
The Stars
A rotating international and Kiwi cast including Rose McIver and Firass Dirani. Across two decades of New Zealand-based production, this franchise has cycled through dozens of young ensemble casts.
Behind the Lens
Produced extensively by Sally Campbell and various international showrunners. Different showrunners have overseen the franchise across its many New Zealand-based seasons, maintaining the format's core structure throughout.
Why NZ?
Efficiency, incredible local stunt talent, and diverse geography. The crew could film a futuristic city center, a volcanic alien landscape, and a lush forest all within a 30-minute drive of their Auckland studios. That geographic density is part of why so many international productions return to the Auckland region again and again. Two decades of continuous production is a rare thing for any single country to sustain for one franchise.
On Set
One cast group touring the South Island in 2020 ended up spending 11 unplanned days there after COVID-19 border closures cancelled their flights home — an accidental extended stay several later described fondly. That density of usable locations is a big part of the franchise's long-running local presence.
Legacy
New Zealand has hosted Power Rangers production for over two decades across multiple incarnations of the franchise, making it one of the country's longest-running ongoing screen relationships.
